Position Name: Special Education Teacher
Position Location: Changsha, China

As the Special Education Teacher, you will be involved in the instruction of children in academic subjects as well as daily living skills to benefit their academic, behavioural and social development. Collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team, you will contribute to developing and implementing strategies to meet the needs of children who have a variety of disabilities.

You will be reporting to the Expertise Team (Educational Representative).

Areas of Responsibilities:
Assist in instructing students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition, in order to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests;
Design and initiate the teaching of appropriate curricula;
Include the teaching of students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation;
Set personalized goals and assign work for each student to meet his/her individual needs and ability;
Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities as appropriate;
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students and other staff;
Utilize individualized instruction, problem-solving assignments, and small group work;
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate childrens progress;
Help the student develop emotionally, feel comfortable in social situations and be aware of socially acceptable behaviour;
Guide and counsel students with special academic interests;
Establish and enforce rules and procedures for behavior to maintain order among the students;
Prepare classrooms for class activities and provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and imaginative play;
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage;
Observe and evaluate childrens performance, behavior, social development, and physical health;
Ensure early identification of disability and special need to implement early intervention;
Coordinate and confer with other teachers, related personnel and foster parents regarding educational plans and how to encourage the childs growth and development;
Refer children to additional medical or educational services as needed;
Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities; and
Assist in the purchase, maintenance and storage of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.

3 years experience instructing disabled children in an educational setting;
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects;
Knowledge of child development theories;
Basic knowledge of psychology is an asset;
Demonstrated ability to create, individualize and revise curriculum;
Confidence in teaching and delivering lessons and in instructing and encouraging fellow workers;
Ability to creatively apply different types of teaching methods to reach students who are having difficulties learning;
Proven ability to motivate and inspire confidence in students;
Demonstrated ability to gain trust and build meaningful relationships;
Ability to be perceptive and observe what children are unable to express;
Motivated in the area of continuous learning through self evaluation and assessments;
Able to handle stress effectively;
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrated cross cultural proficiency;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and project areas;
Problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making abilities;
Exceptional organizational capabilities and program implementation skills;
Strong code of ethics;
Fluency in mandarin is an asset and
Extensive understanding of Chinese culture.

Education: Bachelor degree in Education from a professionally accredited program. Special Education Teaching License required.
