In collaboration with the Changsha interdisciplinary team, the Counsellor will be aid in delivering comprehensive care programs for children, youth and adults with physical and mental disabilities through appropriate individual and group counselling.
Areas of Responsibilities:
Provide a safe environment for individuals aged 5 - 28 to express their mental and emotional states;
Listen and encourage the patients to think clearly about their situations;
Accept openly the issues and difficulties raised by the children;
Build strong relationships characterized by trust and respect with the children.
Reduce confusion and promote understanding of the childs perspectives and behaviour.
Encourage children towards practical rehabilitative behavioural plans, as well as optimistic and positive thinking;
Assist children to discern the difference between reality and the fantasies that often accompany extreme stress, environmental events, and mental or emotional disorders;
Provide crisis counseling if necessary;
Refer children to other appropriate sources of help (such as art therapy, speech therapy, music therapy);
Obtain and maintain information records pertinent to the individuals mental status;
Contribute to the identification of symptoms for assessment purposes;
Aid in the preparation of risk/needs assessment reports;
Work with the Child Psychologist in developing and implementing individualized care programs;
Participate as member of an interdisciplinary team where insights and conclusions are shared for the childrens diagnosis and treatment programs;
Coordinate the training and development of staff in providing appropriate assistance throughout care programs; and
Appraise childrens recovery process.
5 years experience in mental/emotional health counseling for children, youths and/or adults;
Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
Advanced listening skills;
Natural relational competence and ability to compassionately and deeply connect with individuals;
Demonstrated cross cultural proficiency;
Conflict resolution capabilities;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and project areas;
Demonstrated ability to train and support staff members;
Problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making abilities;
Exceptional organizational capabilities and program implementation skills;
Strong code of ethics;
Fluency in mandarin; and
Understanding of Chinese culture.

Sincere desire to help and advocate for disabled children.
Education: Counselling diploma/degree and/or related post-secondary degree at a professionally accredited institution.
