Position Name: Music Therapist

As Music Therapist, you will use music creatively to encourage non-verbal communication from disabled children at ICC Changsha to ultimately influence positive behavioural and psychological changes. Through teamwork with the multidiscipline staff, you will play a crucial role in helping children develop appropriate social skills and self-awareness, and realize their true potential

You will be reporting to the Expertise team (Therapy Manager).

Areas of Responsibilities:
Develop treatment plans using individualized needs assessment;
Direct and participate in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet childrens physical or psychological needs, such as solo or group singing, rhythmic and other creative music activities, and/or music listening;
Collaborate with other staff members in planning music activities in accordance with the childs physical or psychological needs, capabilities, and interests;
Encourage children to use musical instruments including percussion, ethnic instruments and their own voices;
Help the children explore the world of sound and create a musical language of their own;
Improvise music when necessary;
Cover a wide range of musical styles in order to complement the individual needs of each child;
Encourage children to take part in the session by supporting them in responding musically;
Encourage non-verbal communication such as eye contact and listening skills;
Improve childrens comprehension of self, environment and physical abilities;
Study and analyze patients' reactions during each session and prepare reports describing symptoms indicative of progress or regression;
Conduct training sessions to assist staff to incorporate music into lesson plans, therapy sessions and daily life; and
Document childrens progress, submits periodic reports, and revises treatment plans as required.

3 years experience in a Music Therapist capacity working with children and/or disabled individuals;
Demonstrated ability to perform group and individual therapeutic assessments;
Ability to sing and play musical instruments (especially piano and guitar);
Ability to assess individuals musical skills;
Demonstrated ability to observe the environment and pay attention to changes, inappropriate activities, or potential problems;
Knowledge of psychology and education theory, and child development is an asset;
Ability to inspire confidence in individuals;
Demonstrated ability to gain trust and observe what individuals are unable to express;
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonall communication skills;
Demonstrated cross cultural proficiency;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and project areas;
Demonstrated ability to train and support staff members;
Exceptional organizational capabilities and program implementation skills;
Strong code of ethics and professionalism;
Fluency in mandarin is an asset; and
Extensive Uunderstanding of Chinese culture.

Education: Undergraduate Bachelor degree in Music Therapy from a professionally accredited program. Professional Music Therapist certification required.
