The Speech Therapist will assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent speech related disorders found in children with disabilities at ICC Changsha Project. Cooperating with an interdisciplinary team, you will develop therapeutic programs for speech, language, cognitive, communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders.

You will be reporting to the Expertise Team (Therapy Manager).

Areas of Responsibilities:
Examine, test and diagnose children with speech, language, hearing, and oral motor disorders;
Perform evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills;
Use written and oral tests, as well as special instruments, to diagnose the nature and extent of impairment and to record and analyze speech, language, and swallowing irregularities;
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized therapeutic speech and language development programs and services;
Provide speech articulation therapy and work with children to develop language skills as appropriate;
Select alternative communication methods, including automated devices and sign language, and teach their use to children with little or no speech capability;
Teach children with little or no speech capability how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their language skills to communicate more effectively;
Help children who have suffered loss of speech develop, or recover, reliable communication skills;
Monitor childrens progress and adjust treatments accordingly;
Refer children to additional medical or educational services if needed;
Instruct and provide ongoing counseling to care givers, other staff and foster families regarding effective communication strategies;
Conduct lessons and direct educational or therapeutic games to assist teachers dealing with speech problems;
Conduct research on speech or hearing topics, and report findings for use in developing procedures and treatments;
Maintain organized and concise records of childrens progress; and
Troubleshoot and ensure timely and appropriate maintenance and repairs on equipment.

3 years experience evaluating and treating speech, language and hearing disorders in children;
Sound knowledge of speech and language, psychology and education theory, and child development and health;
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and/or kinesiology is an asset;
Knowledge of relevant diagnostic tests and procedures;
Knowledge of child development and parenting theory and practice;
Up-to-date knowledge with the latest developments in the field;
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, evaluate and modify therapeutic programs and services;
Counseling and behavior management skills;
Ability to inspire confidence and cooperation from children and staff;
Demonstrated ability to gain trust and observe what individuals are unable to express;
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonall communication skills;
Demonstrated cross cultural proficiency;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and project areas;
Ability to select and use effective training/instructional methods and procedures to educate other staff members;
Motivated and innovative in the area of continuing education and practice to encourage the professional growth of self and others;
Demonstrated ability to train and support staff members;

Fluency in Mandarin is an asset; and

Education: Undergraduate Masters in Speech Pathology from a professionally accredited program. Professional Speech Therapist/Pathologist certification required.
