Job Description:
Reports to: Director

To support the director in accomplishing the overall mission of Adoption Ministry of YWAM by offering assistance to pregnant women considering adoption for their child. To interface with the Family Development Administrator with selecting adoptive family, negotiating the communication agreement, and developing a hospital plan. To be the advocate for the birth mother during pregnancy, hospital stay, and after placement and to support her emotional needs. To relate to the birth father and other family members and coordinate all aspects of the adoption with them. To provide after placement support for the birthmother and her family.

Duties and Responsibilities

*Initial intake
a.Open up a temporary file

*Access decision making needs
a. parent vs adoption
b. birth father
c. extended family support

*Weekly 50 minute counseling until/unless decides to parent
a. show video
b. define adoptive family dynamics
c. submit to Family Development Administrator (FDA)
d. define communication desires
e. submit to Family Development Administrator (FDA)

*FDA will meet with birthmother 1X before presenting profiles

*Coordinate birthmother and FDA to present profiles
a. talk about the families
b. talk about communication pre and post birth

*FDA and birthmother will inform chosen adoptive family

*Coordinate with FDA meeting between birthmother and chosen adoptive family

*Set up guidelines of pre-birth communication
a. can be an informal written document for both parties
b. record in birthmother file

*Meet with FDA and birthmother to design post-birth communication agreement

*Plan blessing shower for birthmother

*Fill out hospital plan worksheet five (5) weeks before due date and process

*Set up meeting with attorney and birthmother

*Insure all forms are filled out and signed
a. hospital and doctor release
b. attorney release
c. media release
d. communication agreement

*Visit with birthmother daily in hospital

coordinate with FDA any dedication ceremony

*Be with birthmother at discharge

*Call birthmother evening of discharge

*Call often first week post partum and 1X weekly next six (6) weeks
a. take out to lunch 4-6 weeks post partum
b. send written note 1X month for the first three (3) months

*Supervise any visitation (if applicable) that may occur the first year
a.Written assessment of birthmother at six (6) months post partum and at one year adoption anniversary

*Keep card file with birth dates of birthmothers and their children
a. send a birthday card to birthmother on her birthday
b. remember birthmother on her childs birth date

*Plan a yearly birth mother honoring luncheon

Required Skills and Qualifications

*Personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior and exhibition of Christian fruit and integrity in attitudes and actions
*Completed 5-mo Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training School
*Positive personal interactions
*Program Development Skills
*Gifted at hospitality

The Birth Mother Advisor of Adoption Ministry of YWAM will be annually evaluated for his/her performance by the Director.
