Title: Rehab Team Coordinator/Physical Therapist

The Rehabilitation Team Coordinator leads a team of personnel focused on providing high quality rehabilitation services for pre- & post-operative surgical patients and crew. This position is based on dockside and/or community. Long-term commitment preferred.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

*Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the Rehabilitation team on and off the ship while on field service and monitor the quality of care being provided.
*Collaborate with the Reconstructive and Orthopedic Care Coordinators as well as other HealthCare staff to promote comprehensive patient care from screening through discharge.
*Collaborate with other HealthCare team leaders within Patient Services and Surgical Services to plan future field services, including the writing of concept papers and proposals.
*Assess and report on results of services provided.
*Provide clinical support as well as team and spiritual leadership to Rehab team staff, encouraging healthy team dynamics, morale and relationships.
*Orient volunteers to their roles within the team, providing materials as needed.
*Participate in Quality Assurance and Improvement meetings as well as revise and develop appropriate procedures and protocols.
*Address staff issues, i.e. adherence to ship policies, interpersonal conflicts or clinical performance issues.
*Complete performance evaluations on staff in a timely manner, providing effective feedback to encourage growth in staff.
*Evaluate patients' emotional and physical condition at screening and on ship by performing manual muscle testing, ROM and other tests as needed. Determine appropriate diagnosis.
*Coordinate and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient treatment plans and goals, utilizing selected physical therapy procedures including physical agents, therapeutic exercise and gait and functional training.
*Discuss and document treatment goals & therapy with patients/family/staff/surgeons as indicated.
*Evaluate patients during treatment to determine effectiveness and safety, modifying treatment plan as indicated.
*Coordinate PT activities with other personnel involved in patient care management.
*Maintain records and files reflecting patient progress, treatment plans, and related statistical data.
*Provide patient education pre-operatively, post-operatively, and in anticipation of discharge.
*Supply patients with appropriate ambulatory aids.
*Assist with fabrication of orthotics and other supports.
*Refer patients to outside facilities for continuation of therapy, orthotic needs, and other services as indicated.
*Act as liaison between ship and outside orthopaedic facilities.
*Serve as a consultant to physicians and nurses regarding PT services.
*Plan and organize educational programs for supportive personnel.
*On a regular basis, evaluate and give physical therapy treatment to crew referred by appointment from the Crew Clinic. This is lower priority than surgical patients.
*Follow HealthCare Services department policies and procedures; maintain a high level of safety for patients and property; ensure high standard of infection control
*Requisition supplies and equipment; clean and repair tools and equipment as required.
*Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
*Perform other related duties as assigned.

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, excellent organizational skills.
*Computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook beneficial.
*Must have superior relational skills and outstanding Christian character.

*Ability to respond to requests and obtain information in a timely manner.
Education and Experience
The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.
*Registered Physical Therapist with at least two years experience.
*Experience with surgical patients preferred, including orthopaedic and burn reconstruction, as well as experience in musculoskeletal outpatients.
*Mercy Ships or developing nation experience beneficial.
