Prince of Peace is a safe home for young women in Guatemala. In most cases, the girls that arrive at Prince of Peace come from extremely challenging home environments. The girls have faced abuse, neglect, and a life of fear. However, at Prince of Peace, they have the opportunity for a safe and nurturing home staffed by people who truly care about them. The housemothers are interviewed, screened by a senior staffer, and trained effectively. The girls are also given a well-balanced diet that will provide them the vitamins and minerals needed to grow. In addition, the girls are taught personal hygiene, personal development, and good health care practices. Prince of Peace's Clinic of Hope is a clinic that treats the girls, as well as the community.

The Executive Director will manage the day-to-day activities of the Prince of Peace. He is responsible for maintaining the vision and mission of Prince of Peace through the coordination of strategic partnerships with Guatelmalan government agencies, United States Church Partners, Board of Directors, and staff. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that good relations are maintained with appropriate government entities through the execution of agreements. This includes renewal of Prince of Peace’s certificate and accompanying financial audits, certification of the business license(s), documentation necessary for staff work visas and immigration requirements, as well as any banking functions, including staff salary payments and tax payments. Additionally, the Executive Director will need to successfully foster good relationships among the staff. The ability to navigate through cultural differences while promoting healthy team relationships within the workplace is a must. The Executive Director should be well acquainted with all of the local activities and be able to speak on behalf of the organization as needed at various functions, conferences, NGO gatherings, and government meetings, as well as foster relationships with churches in the United States and Guatemala.

The ideal candidate for the Executive Director position will be a strong leader with proven abilities to guide and direct the activities of various staff members who represent a wide range of abilities, ages, and nationalities. The candidate should be skilled at working in cross-cultural settings with staff, volunteers, and visiting donors from various cultures and countries. They should be highly sensitive to the host country and understand the nature of a foreign NGO working in partnership with their host country.

Guatemala today is very much a synthesis of Maya and colonial traditions, fused with the omnipresent influences of twenty-first century Latin and North American culture. Baroque churches dating back to the Spanish Conquest coexist with pagan temples that have been sites of worship for millennia. Highland street markets prosper alongside vast glitzy shopping malls, and pre-Columbian festival dances are performed by teenage hip-hop fans. Guatemala is still a developing nation, a young democracy with a turbulent and  that’s beset by deep-rooted inequalities. And yet, despite alarming levels of poverty and unemployment, most Guatemalans are extraordinarily friendly and hospitable.
