We are recruiting a Director of Development for one of our non-profit companies, Clerestory


Clerestory is a non-profit that exists to proclaim the magnificent glory of Jesus Christ by promoting justice in the form of robust and real economic opportunity to the materially poor and at-risk. 


The Need


Clerestory seeks to address poverty, hopelessness, homelessness and racism in a way that is that is truly helpful and transforming in a long-term, legacy changing way that is both productive and Christ-centered.


The problem of poverty is much more a problem of broken relationships (with God, self, family, church, and community) than it is a lack of material resources. Therefore, any real, long-term solution to material deficiencies must involve primarily a restoration of relationships.


The Reality


In many urban centers, and especially in Birmingham, there is deep, widespread poverty and hopelessness living within a very few miles of widespread wealth, as well as a deep racial divide.


This wealth disparity and racial divide is clear in the city at large and extends to our Christian churches.


The Solution


Clerestory is a non-profit organization that is focused on long-term development and addresses the previously described reality and need holistically and relationally. In order to achieve holistic restoration, any implemented solutions would have to address infrastructure (either by creating it or connecting it) for the following areas; community, education, jobs/careers, housing and health.


Director of Development: 

The Director of Development will be responsible for sharing the vision of Clerestory. He/she will need a genuine heart for Clerestory’s work and for the people Clerestory serves as well as the ability to articulate the vision to particular donors and leaders within the Birmingham community.



Major Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising
  • Donor relationship management
  • Develop & manage relationships with employers and potential employers 
  • Oversee job placement and relationship management with program graduates 
  • Project management
  • Other responsibilities as required by the officers and board members

At the end of the day our client needs a Director of Development who is passionate about Birmingham, helping the poor learn to live with strength and dignity and who isn’t afraid to share that story with others in order to raise funds and awareness. It will be a challenge, but what great adventure isn’t a challenge? 


Pay Range


Base pay: $40,000 Base


Bonus: Will be based on performance and amount of annual budget increase
