Job Description:

If so, wed love to talk with you about a position as the Executive Director of Street Youth Ministries in Seattle.



SYM Background:

Street Youth Ministries (SYM) is a faith-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide youth in Seattle's University District with authentic relationships, life-skills, advocacy and resources that bring hope and healing to their lives and the community.

SYM offers a continuum of services to homeless and youth-in-crisis ages 13 - 22 by providing: relationships, basic necessities, classes and opportunities to develop core skills and behaviors, and access to critical information and resources. SYMs primary entry point for youth is its Drop-in Center which is open four days a week. Youth can access deeper-level services after initial Drop-in Center contact.

SYM performs its work in partnership with University Presbyterian Church (UPC). SYMs drop-in center and administrative offices are hosted by UPC and UPC provides SYM with financial support, prayer, and volunteers.



Position Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of SYM.

Primary responsibilities include spiritual direction, implementation of strategic plans, financial management, staff management and development, fundraising, and board partnerships.

The Executive Director supervises staff and has oversight responsibility for program development and evaluation, operations, finance, marketing, and public relations.

The Executive Director serves as the principal advocate and spokesperson to stakeholders and the community.



Accountability:

This position reports to SYMs Board of Directors.



Salary:

This is a fully benefited, full-time position; salary depends on experience.



Responsibilities:

Resource Development & Management

Annual Giving: Work in collaboration with SYMs Development Manager to develop publications and letters, identify special event opportunities, and review internal procedures. Supervise annual fund raising events

Major Gifts: Develop personal contacts and cultivate current and potential donors. Keep donors informed of program progress and significant accomplishments.

Corporate and Foundation Relations: Research and identify prospective grantors; recommend cultivation and solicitation strategies; prepare and review grant proposals; review and develop corporate annual giving programs.


Public Relations & Marketing

Public Relations:
- Educate community on psycho-social problems that impact the
community.
- Perform a wide variety of PR tasks including writing of news releases,
working with area media representatives, and developing media plans
for promoting SYM and its activities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations,
including service providers (UDSPA), churches, service organizations.

Marketing: Assist in newsletter production, Web-site management, agency literature and publications.


Financial Planning & Oversight

Budget:
- Develop SYMs annual budget and present to the Board for approval,
oversee spending, and manage SYMs financial position.
- In conjunction with program directors, develop individual program
budgets.
- Track actual expenses vs. projected expenses.

Financial Reporting:
- Work in collaboration with SYMs independent bookkeeper to create
monthly income & expense reports; monitor current vs. past income;
create financial projection reports.
- Monitor and report fiscal activity and budget variances to the Board
and its Finance Committee.


Personnel Management

- Provide supervision for and support to SYMs Program Manager and
other staff as needed.
- Facilitate weekly staff meetings.
- Provide overall direction in personnel-related matters, i.e., staff
development, personnel policies, hiring of new staff, evaluation of
staff.
- Delegate responsibilities.


Board & Volunteer Development

- Organize and attend monthly Board meetings.
- Organize and participate in recruitment of new Board members,
including identification, cultivation, and enlistment of new Board
members.
- Assist Board in identifying/defining strategic Board needs.
- Support Board members in carrying out their responsibilities to SYM.
- Assess the Board's strengths and weaknesses.
- Educate Board members and key volunteers about their roles in the
organization's fund-raising process.


Strategic Planning & Program Development: Work with the Board of Directors, staff, and key partners to create, plan, and coordinate the long-range strategies for sustainable financing of SYMs growing programs.


University Presbyterian Church (UPC) Partnership

- Represent SYM to the overall UPC community
- Participate in UPCs Urban and Global Missions department


General Administration

- Oversee bookkeeping.
- Maintain financial and donor databases.
- Produce financial and program reports as needed.
- Works with Board, volunteers, and staff to manage SYM facilities.


Clinical

- Participate in volunteer training.
- On-site service 3x week.
- Provide on-call support for drop-in.

Desired Qualifications:

Candidates will have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and be involved in a local church community. The candidates faith will be demonstrated through his/her life conduct both personally and professionally. In addition, the right candidate will be able to provide spiritual leadership and encouragement to volunteers and staff. The candidate must be recognized as a proven leader by all references. The successful candidate should be recognized as a person of honesty, integrity, and a true team player. Strong professional ethics are of utmost importance.

Experience in grant-writing and clinical phsychology also desired.
