Job Description:

Greta Home and Academy is a home and school for 70 Haitian orphans and vulnerable children between the ages of 4 and 17 in Haiti in Leogane, Haiti. GHA nurtures, supports and provides a safe environment for the children to grow into healthy adults physically, academically and spiritually. Each child participates in a discipleship program that helps them to know Jesus, follow him every day and tell others the Good News. Samaritan's Purse is seeking a mature Christian with a passion for disadvantaged children to provide daily supervision and coordination of the facility maintenance and grounds staff of the home and school.


1.Supervise and assign work of maintenance and grounds employees.

2.Maintain constant awareness of building structures and grounds for potential hazards to children and employees

3.Coordinate repairs and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, generator and septic systems. 4.Coordinate general facility maintenance and repairs such as painting, patching walls, landscaping, hardware, etc.

5.Establish (or adjust existing) schedules and methods and identify resources needed for maintenance and grounds tasks, including preventative maintenance activities. Coordinate these activities with the Executive Director to ensure objectives are achieved and quality standards maintained.

6.Inspect work to ensure that it is complete and correct; providing corrective action and training to address quality or performance gaps.

7.Train staff in facility maintenance, safety methods, procedures, and techniques.

8.Work daily alongside national staff to complete ongoing maintenance and projects to teach proper techniques and desired workmanship quality.

9.Perform the most complex maintenance tasks, while also training the staff to eventually assume the duties.

10.As time permits, work with the Executive Director to develop and implement basic vocational training for children on carpentry, plumbing, etc.

11.Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers.

12.Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.

13.Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, as well as able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1.At least 5 years' experience in facility maintenance or related experience, with strong knowledge of materials, methods, terminology, equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building structures and systems, including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, basic carpentry, painting, etc. 2.Excellent leadership skills including supervision, training and performance evaluation

3.Previous cross-cultural experience is strongly desired.

4.Strong leadership skills with an ability to be firm in direction and supervision of staff

5.Good writing skills in English; spoken French/Creole an advantage; willingness to learn Creole.

6.Ability to provide hands-on training and development to a staff with varying technical abilities with tact and diplomacy.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree or equivalent; 4 - 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Also, twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies is strongly preferred.
