Job Description:

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is seeking a dynamic, experienced editor to join its Decision Magazine team as Senior Editor.  Decision is dedicated to becoming “The Evangelical Voice of Today.”  In a world that is trying to “silence”  Christians, Decision is expanding its coverage to include relating biblical values and truths to current events and cultural issues in a way that will inspire Christians to take a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ.


The ideal candidate for the Senior Editor position is someone who is theologically sound, knows how to build a narrative and argument through engaging articles and creative oversight.  This editor will help writers and contributors shape stories, taking responsibility for the quality and character of the content including creative prior to presenting to the Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief.  This position will balance a high level of responsibility with a strong command of grammar, style and attention to detail as well as bring innovative ideas for themes, articles and layout that will help direct the expansion of Decision into a global voice for evangelicals today.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
  • Consistently participates in daily BGEA staff devotions
  • Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
  • Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence
  • Develops ongoing themes and article ideas for strong, issue-related content ensuring theologically sound content
  • Works closely with creative team to develop attention-grabbing cover and lay out that will engage new readers
  • Composes, reviews, and edits written works for the monthly magazine
  • Initiates concepts and strategies that will help in increasing readership base
  • Certifies that brand-specific style is consistent throughout magazine
  • Manages staff and freelancers guaranteeing deadlines/budget met
  • Initiates and directs weekly production meetings ensuring prioritization
  • Other duties assigned


Reporting Relationships:


  • Reports to Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief


Skills and Knowledge:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field
  • Ten years strong editorial experience, preferably having solid experience working with current issues for a magazine
  • General knowledge of BGEA; agreement with the philosophy and principles of BGEA
  • Must possess strong working knowledge of the Word of God
  • Proven expertise in variety of publishing venues including digital, social media, etc.
  • Have a Biblical worldview and gifted in translating practical insight of how that relates to evangelicals today
  • Creative, innovative in capturing “hooks” that will build and expand readership, target
  • Successful editorial track record within a conservative but cutting edge environment
  • Willing to risk

  • Active Christian walk
  • Based in Charlotte, NC with travel to Boone, NC once weekly
