Job Description:

Title:  Detroit Area Market Director

Status:  Full Time, Salaried

Reports to: Vice President of the Great Lakes Region

Direct Reports: Eastern Michigan Camp Directors, Counseling and Administrative Support Staff

Key Relationships: Marketing and Communications Manager, Director of People and Organizational Development, Development Director, Market Leaders, and Senior Directors in Other Regions


Position Summary:

The Market Leader works collaboratively with the leadership team to develop, communicate and implement Camp programs within an assigned region, and Camp growth overall, while ensuring the integrity and professional image of services are consistent with SpringHill’s mission, vision, purpose and values.


Principle Duties and Job Functions:


Sales and Marketing Leader

  • Develop relationship management plan to engage all current ministry partners within market
  • Develop and maintain relationships with select key constituents (ministry leaders, parents,donors)
  • Develop and implement a Sales & Marketing Plan, coordinated with the Marketing & Communications Manager, including messaging that DC parents receive throughout the year, and daily messaging during camp and at closing rally     
  • Develop and implement growth plan for the market, including growing day camp (may include adding teams/sites) and growing other ministry opportunities within the market
  • Achieve matriculation goal from SpringHill Day Camps to Overnight Camp                 

DC Strategic Planning and Implementation  

  • Develop and implement a plan to identify operational, cultural, staffing and management changes needed to achieve camper growth and margin growth for the region
  • Responsible for planning and execution of Summer Day Camp within the region
  • Ensure compliance with ACCT and other federal, state and local laws

SpringHill Experience (SHX) Leader

  • Assure SHX is implemented in manner consistent with SH values, philosophy of ministry, and standards
  • Create new programs and activities to remain relevant and reach more kids

Team Leader

  • Recruit, hire, deploy, coach, develop, and train Camp Directors and staff in their responsibilities
  • Manage and lead the Camp staff; including conducting performance appraisals, coaching, and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Determine how projects and recruiting are coordinated among markets and between/among regions

Financial and Resource Stewardship

  • Develop, monitor, and oversee an annual budget for DC teams in market
  • Meet revenue goals for customers in market for all SHX’s
  • Refine DC model to enhance operating margin


Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and passion for SpringHilll’s mission and philosophy of ministry
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business administration, youth ministry, or a related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in church ministry, camp ministry, market development or a similar field
  • A solid understanding of children and youth ministry programming, principles and their applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel extensively within the region
  • Existing knowledge and strong network relationships with churches in the Market region preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, marketing, operations management and leadership of people

  • Ability to communicate and read clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Problem-solving skills, exercising judgment, and making sound decisions in performing job duties

  • Ability to exercise patience and diplomacy in dealing with camp employees, students, guest and the general public while performing investigative tasks
  • A self-starter who is highly motivated and able to work unsupervised for extended periods
  • Ability to handle restricted and confidential information in a professional manner and always maintain the information as such

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Live within the Detroit Region and travel extensively within the region  
  • Sit for long periods of time processing data and information
  • Must be able to push, bend, and twist
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs, and occasionally 35-100 lbs with assistance
  • Good eye-hand coordination
