Job Description
To work with authors in the development of new course material to evaluate and edit this material to ensure that it communicates and trains the student in meeting the stated objectives for the course. The editor will design the material for print as well as for the web. Therefore, knowledge of how to take advantage of each of these mediums for instructional purposes is necessary for the design of each course. It is also necessary to work closely with a graphic artist in designing the use of graphics and audio visual media to enhance the educational capability of each course. To perform in this position, knowledge of educational methodologies in the use of print and the internet is essential. Some specific tasks could include:
1. Edit for flow and clarity - connections between sections.
2. Follow through the material to ensure that all statements, requests, references etc. are properly supported within the course. For example, do we ask the student to do something that we have not given them the resources to do? Are we referring to material in the course that doesnt exist?
3. Determine whether or not the educational objectives are suitable and is there good correlation between the stated objective and the course material to follow. Does the course content support and enable the student to achieve the objectives?
4. Estimate the workload in hours you think an average student at a high school educational level would need to complete the lesson with a goal of 3 hours per lesson.
5. Evaluate whether there are theological statements or discussions that need to be clarified, modified, or balanced for an average student to understand.
6. Edit for whether the questions are understandable and clear? Do they support the learning process towards meeting the stated objectives? Are the questions substantial or trivial - good learning questions or a waste of time. Provide suggestions for improving; dropping or adding questions.
7. Determine whether scripture and other supporting references accurately support what is being taught?
8. Assess if there are obvious application points that have been missed and make suggestions for the consideration of the author. Do the examples and applications support the points being made and is this understandable to an average student?
9. Edit for obvious errors in the answers to questions. Do the answers to the questions seem correct to you - clicking three times on Check will cause the computer to give its answer - if something seems amiss, just tell me to recheck.
10. Coach and encourage the authors to develop and structure the course to follow the Course Writers Guide.
