Position Description:
The Graphic Artist (GA) works within the Curriculum Development Team to develop graphics and media supporting course content for the BEE curriculum, with a primary emphasis on Internet/CD deliver and cultural relevance while being mindful of a print version export. The GA is responsible for the oversight and development of all course graphics and media for assigned courses, focusing on student comprehension, cross-cultural use, and file-size requirements for Internet, CD, and paper delivery. The GA seeks to maintain continuity of graphics styles within each course by modifying provided artwork, looking for existing art, and including photos, illustrations, charts, diagrams, maps, audio files, and multimedia pieces (audio, text, and animations combined in Macromedia Flash).

Review graphics and media suggested for use in course.
Work with Instructional Designer/Team Leader and Course Writer/Reviser to brainstorm and conceptualize graphics and media used within a course.
Make suggestions for modifications, additions, or deletions of graphics and media in the course.
Develop graphics and media for Web and print exports.
Meet technical and physical requirements of course graphics and media.
Work with Instructional Designer/Team Leader to develop schedule of completion for course graphics and media, and work to ensure that deadlines are met.
Ensure and document copyright permissions before using resources for BEE courses.
Ensure completion of all graphics and media for assigned course(s).
Document and maintain documentation of course graphics and media.
Create design templates, as necessary, for future course development.
Develop course graphics instructions for translation teams.
Implement graphics changes after proofreading/edit reviews.
Communicate any graphics changes/updates to Instructional Designer/Team Leader and translation teams.
Teach graphic design and computer skills to other team members as appropriate for delegating tasks or translating graphics files (MCF) into another language.
Provide other graphics assistance to BEE World, upon approval of the Instructional Designer/Team Leader.

Must have a degree in Graphic Design or Communication Arts, or equivalent training.
Must have at least two years of practical experience in graphic design and Web development.
Must be motivated to work independently to achieve goals and consider being a team player as the highest value.
Experience in developing educational materials preferred.
Illustration skills would be an asset to the team, especially for accurately portraying biblical locations and human figures.
Detail oriented.
Flexibility to shift assignments based on field needs.
Ability to see Web font limitations as an opportunity to excel in design and illustration.
Ability to learn new technologies and grow in skills.
Ability to work in a PC environment.
Proficient using Macromedia Fireworks - tools, layers, filters, slicing, exporting.
Familiarity with other computer graphics drawing applications (such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand) a plus.
Proficient using Macromedia Flash - tools, masking, tweening, audio, ActionScript.
Familiarity with HTML and JavaScript.
Working knowledge of Macromedia Dreamweaver and/or other Web editing tools.
Working knowledge of how to scan photos and illustrations.
Working knowledge of a photo editing tool such as Adobe Photoshop.
Familiarity with audio recording and editing tools (such as SoundForge) a plus.
Experience with animation and video editing tools also a plus.
Strong spelling and proofreading skills preferred.
Ability to visually convey abstract ideas and complex concepts into understandable, simplified graphics.
Recognize or learn to recognize the cultural appropriateness of a graphic.
Experience in conveying Christian concepts through graphics or media a plus.
Must provide five to ten samples of work.

It is assumed that the GA is a mature Christian and exhibits the fruit of the Spirit in all aspects of life.
