Benefits Specialist

 

Summary of Position:

Salem Communications Corporation seeks a Benefits Specialist for the Human Resources Department

at the Corporate Office in Camarillo, CA.  The Benefits Specialist is responsible for coordinating and

maintaining various Benefit Programs for Salem Communications. The Benefits Specialist will report

directly to the Human Resource Manager.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

The Benefits Specialist will respond to benefit related inquiries verbally and in writing, prepare

correspondence, manage the open enrollment process, database/spreadsheet entry and e-mail as

necessary.  Must be able to handle and maintain confidential and non-routine information by

implementing discernment, discretion and diplomacy.  Will be expected to exercise initiative, sound

judgment and make decisions within the scope of authority.  Will be expected to consistently demonstrate

ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as

reprioritizing work as necessary.

Benefits

  • Handles all benefit related calls from employees
  • Works with 3rd party broker to resolve benefit disputes with insurance carriers
  • Performs all insurance invoice reconciliation and billing
  • FSA Discrimination Testing
  • Audits of HRIS benefit deductions for consistency and accuracy
  • Data input of benefit deductions
  • Benefits related communication campaigns
  • Manage Open Enrollment process annually

 

Worker’s Comp

  • Coordinate with Comp carrier and employees on all Comp. Claims
  • Work with Vendors on ergonomic studies and work station modifications

 

Leaves of Absence

  • Determine appropriate leave for employee to take
  • Send out appropriate letter regarding leave of absence
  • Track leave through HRIS system

 

401K Administration

  • Member of Retirement Committee
  • Handles all 401K related calls from employees

 

Events

  • Work with Event Planner on Wellness Events
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned

 

Desired Job Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years in Benefits Administration, including self-insured health plans
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with HR team members, senior management, benefit companies and employees
  • Must have a willingness to demonstrate accountability for responsibility of projects and deadlines with ability to work under pressure
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discern priorities. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have an understanding of open enrollment, benefits questions, workers compensation, 401K, and Leaves of Absence
  • Demonstrates ability to respond quickly to shifting work priorities and rush deadlines 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Desired Education or Degree:

BS or BA Degree preferred, High School Diploma required
