Chief Executive Officer
The Claretian Missionaries are a Roman Catholic religious community of 3,000 priests and brothers worldwide who are dedicated to seeing the world through the eyes of the poor. In addition to other ministries around the country, the Claretians sponsor a vibrant publishing ministry, Claretian Publications, and foster devotion to St. Jude through the National Shrine of St. Jude. The St. Jude League is the funding arm of the Eastern Province of the Claretian Missionaries.
The Eastern Province of the Claretian Missionaries, located in Chicago, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer for the St. Jude League and Claretian Publications. The ideal candidate will provide fiscal and visionary leadership and change management expertise to a mission-focused organization of 75 staff dedicated to the St. Jude League and Claretian Publications ministries. The Chief Executive Officer will be charged with building camaraderie and fostering teamwork and cohesion among the St. Jude League, Claretian Publications and with the Claretian Missionaries as elements of change are implemented. He/she will provide strong leadership with an eye toward the future, while working with senior leaders to create a work environment that bolsters collaboration, fosters teamwork, and creates a positive and healthy work environment.
The CEO will develop long- and short-term goals for the St. Jude League and Claretian Publications and create strategic business plans to meet those goals. Of critical importance for this plan is a focus on bolstering income and managing expenses. She/he will oversee fundraising efforts, analyze fundraising performance and direct strategies to strengthen returns and manage expenses. The CEO will model and engender the enthusiasm and commitment for the Claretian mission and its ministries of the St. Jude League and Claretian Publications. Finally, this individual will provide fiscal leadership to ensure the sound development and adherence to annual budgets.
The Claretians seek a mission-driven executive with strong relationship, communications and organizational skills. She/he will be a goal-oriented, accomplished leader who is passionate about and committed to the Claretian mission and values the ministries and the communities served through the St. Jude League and Claretian Publications. Additionally, the successful candidate will have:
•A Bachelor’s degree; a graduate degree strongly preferred.
•A minimum of 10 years experience in leadership and management.
•Experience in nonprofit management with significant fundraising experience and/or experience in publications strongly preferred.
•A track record of providing leadership to fundraising programs.
•A track record in building strong and productive work teams.
•Demonstrated leadership in organizational development and/or change management is strongly preferred.
•Strong analytic and strategic-thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to create, implement and monitor complex plans, and translate those plans into goals and concrete strategies.
•Familiarity with Catholic faith traditions; ability to work comfortably within a Catholic environment to promote the Claretian mission.
•Career track record that shows stability with an organization and capacity to develop and nurture relationships culminating in overall success.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
