Job Summary

Leads and directs the ministry function of Compassion that develops strategies for all mega, major and mid level donors. The incumbent also develops strategies to increase engagement among constituent in all customer segments and maximizes funding from foundations and Compassion's Combined Federal Campaign. Directs a team of 20 regional representatives, direct marketing professionals and support staff to carry out these strategies and effectively reach ministry defined revenue and planned giving goals at an acceptable return on investment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
Acts as an advocate for children - raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one's influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
The position is responsible for the overall success of the Constituent Marketing/Development force.
Recruits, trains, manages, and develops a team of managers and directors who will be located throughout the country and who will be responsible for relationship management and revenue goals in each of their marketing segments (mega donor, major donor, mid level donor, etc.).
Develops and directs marketing methods, strategies and activities for the Department and assists with startegies on a much broader level. This includes strategies for reaching organization revenue goals for each marketing product.
Seeks innovative methods and activities to drive deeper engagement of sponsors/donors. Also works to improve retention rate among all Compassion constituents.
Purpose to acquire and maintain vast organizational knowledge in order to effectively represent Compassion to donors. Position requires broad and in-depth understanding with the ability to articulate details and outcomes for all Compassion ministries.
Understands complexity of organizational alignment between the Department, International Program Group, Finance and Field offices.
Responsibility also includes knowledge of budget and accounting processes and field operations
Must understand reality of field capacity issues and be able to articulate situations to the revenue production team so that the team has and sets realistic expectations with donors.
Personally manages a select portfolio of relationships. Establishes goals for activity, revenue production, and acceptable return on investment for all revenue generating representatives in the department.
Develops the annual budget for the department and is responsible for monitoring and managing expenses throughout the year.
Represents Compassion's ministry of Christian child development to Compassion’s highest level individual and foundation donors. Ensures each relationship manager develops and implements a cultivation goal, strategy and time table for each account and qualified prospect.
Maintains strong relationships with donor accounts through personal visits, phone calls, and letters.
Communicates and establishes donor involvement as appropriate on Vision Trips, in special meetings or events and programs. Directs Compassion's planned giving activities to serve the needs of donors who are interested in making non-cash gifts or planned gifts to the ministry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Minimum of fifteen years experience in the field of non-profit major gift acquisition and knowledge of direct marketing industry.
Minimum of ten years of successful experience managing a sales/marketing team.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to screen, recruit, evaluate, inspire, and train staff.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
Strong knowledge of Biblical teaching, especially concerning poverty and Compassion-related themes.
Strong awareness and knowledge of Compassion programs. Will require regular visits to the field for exposure and training. Must be sensitive to cross-cultural issues.
Strategic planning skills, especially in the area of sponsor/donor development.
Team player. Servant leader. One who can gain the confidence of the highest executives within Compassion as well as external organizations.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Compassion's ministry. Has a passion for sharing Compassion's ministry and deepening other's commitment to releasing children from poverty.

Working Conditions
Travels Cross culturally and domestically up to 35%.
