Orphan Helpers, Inc. is a multi-denominational Christian 501(c)3 charity, incorporated in the state of Virginia in 2001, with a mission of serving and ministering to the spiritual, emotional, educational and physical needs of orphaned, abused and incarcerated children and youth. With 5 US-based staff and 30 in-country teachers, caregivers and counselors, Orphan Helpers maintains a constant presence in 14 government-operated orphanages and youth detention centers in El Salvador and Honduras serving more than 1,000 children. Orphan Helpers in-country staff members and short term mission teams provide Biblical teaching and discipleship, basic education, vocational skills, and constant love and support to the children. Through partnerships with individuals, churches in both North and Central America, businesses, organizations and governments, Orphan Helpers expands its ministries beyond what can be provided with its own resources.

Orphan Helpers is seeking an effective Executive Director who is an exceptional leader with a passion for our mission. The qualified candidate will be a committed follower of Jesus tasked to take the organization to an all new level of organizational sustainability and ministry expansion. Orphan Helpers is preparing to launch a new strategic organizational model as shown in the three charts accompanying this document. Chart I represents the current Orphan Helpers model. Chart II represents the Children’s HopeChest model which we plan to incorporate many of their ideas, systems and processes into a new model for Orphan Helpers (Chart III). The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors. View all three charts here:

Specific responsibilities of the Executive Director are as follows:

  1. Change Management & Strategic Planning:
    Create and execute detailed plans and procedures for new operational model
  2. Staff Administration and Support
    Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and manage all staff and operations
  3. Board Administration and Support
    Support operations and administration of Board of Directors by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between Board and staff
  4. Program, Product and Service Delivery
    Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs and services
  5. Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management
    Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
  6. Human Resource Management
    Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations
  7. Community and Public Relations
    Assure the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and donors
  8. Fundraising
    Oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funding sources, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Advanced degree a plus; MBA preferred
