Job Description:

The American Baptist International Ministries has recently retained our executive search firm to assist in locating an Associate Executive Director for Mission Advancement to lead the organization’s funds development and strategic communications efforts and grow support for its mission programs around the world.

The oldest Baptist mission agency in North America, International Ministries (IM) has grown and evolved over nearly two centuries of ministry. The worldwide mission work is a response to Christ’s call to “make disciples of all nations.” IM today embraces more than 1,400 volunteers, short- and long-term missionaries, 487 missionary partnership team members, and 224 partner organizations in 77 counties. The organization’s focus spans evangelism, theological education, human trafficking, health, economic development, education, peace and refuge, and disaster relief.

Reporting to the Executive Director of International Ministries, the Associate Executive Director will develop operational plans for the advancement, fundraising, marketing and communications of the organization. Supervising a team of specialists, this executive will provide direction to all donor programs that generate revenue for the operation. The chosen candidate will be in charge of overall fundraising strategies, plans, prospecting, and donor communications soliciting constituency support of the current 1.3 million members and 5,500 congregations in the US and Puerto Rico. Engaging donors is at the heart of this work.

We seek an individual with at least 10 years of donor development and marketing communications, preferably in ministry-related activities where fundraising is a key component of the work. The candidate must be seasoned in design and execution of strategic advancement in a complex environment with multiple offerings and multiple channels. The selected individual will have supervised a team greater than seven and be a strong, spiritual, executive leader who shares the passion and conviction of ministry.

Compensation is comparable to other nonprofits and includes a superior benefits package. This is an outstanding career ministry opportunity as a servant leader supporting the American Baptist congregation and its missions on a worldwide stage.
