Music for Life Institute (MFL) is the parent organization of the African Children’s Choir. For the past 24 years MFL has worked in Uganda in partnership with Ambassadors of Hope, an indigenous NGO founded by MFL to carry out projects in Uganda.
The main project of Music for Life Uganda is the development of the African Children’s Choir Centre in Entebbe. Under the umbrella of this project are the following programs: the African Children’s Choir Primary School, the African Children’s Choir Training Academy and Music for Life Child Centre Community Outreach. Music for Life Uganda will continue to work in partnership with Ambassadors of Hope on various programs.
As the Business Administrator you will play an integral role in the development of Music for Life Uganda. Joining the team during the infancy of the organization will require a pioneer spirit. In these early stages you will be required to complete daily routine administration in addition to taking responsibility of the organizations business affairs. Music For Life Primary School has existing systems in place; you will be required to further develop these systems taking advice from our partner, Ambassadors of Hope, and others where necessary.
MFL responds quickly to new opportunities, while the overall vision of the organization in Uganda is consistently moving forward, individual projects and programs can develop quickly. As someone who is organized, logical and methodical, you must also be flexible, with an ability and spirit of spontaneity to shift focus from immediate priorities and projects without jeopardizing the ongoing programs of the organization.
As Business Administrator you must be culturally sensitive. Music For Life Uganda seeks to develop programs that will help Ugandan children reach their full potential within Uganda. The African Children’s Choir often refers to itself as a mixed marriage, taking both the Western and African viewpoints to create the very best of opportunities and experience for the children. As Business Administrator it is imperative to have respect and appreciation for diverse perspectives and approaches and as an expatriate to Uganda remain considerate that you are a visitor.
Qualifications and Experiences:
o Committed to Christian principles including maintaining a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
o Previous NGO experience in a cross cultural setting
o Excellent interpersonal abilities, skilled in cross-cultural communication
o Experienced in cultivating and developing new relationships
o Strong team orientation
o Willing to make challenging management decisions
o Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
o Accounting/Finance Management, knowledge/experience of Intuit Quickbooks
o Ability to confidently and proficiently work in concert with government departments
o Ability to raise personal support
• Financial Management:
Responsible for the finances of the organizations, accounting, and disbursement of funds. Additionally handling financial reporting, budgeting and an annual audit.
• Human Resource Management:
Overseeing the continued development and implementation of personnel policies and ensuring files are maintained.
• Business Management:
Ensuring the organization is complying with all relevant laws of Uganda. Filing appropriate returns and reports with relevant authorities and boards as required.
• School Management:
The Business Administrator is part of the school management team responsible for the operation of the school facilities and the organization’s vehicles with direct supervision of the Driver, Purchaser and Maintenance positions.
• Project Facilitation:
Assisting in the facilitation of visitors and various short term projects and programs, particularly with respect to logistical, administrative, and financial support.
• Representing Music For Life Uganda:
Part of the Management team of MFL Uganda. Networking, attending seminars, workshops and meetings with other NGO’s as required.
