Job Description:
National Director
Evangelicals for Kids
Washington, DC

A new organization of evangelical Christian leaders—both ministers and lay people—seeks a full-time national director based in Washington, DC. Evangelicals for Kids (EFK) is a non-profit organization that seeks to influence state and federal policy-makers with regard to societal institutions and proven programs that better the lives of children, help them to get started on the right track and to succeed in school, and keep them from entering lives of crime. Guided by an advisory committee of evangelical leaders, our members will undertake a range of activities that will educate state and federal policy-makers and the public about the evangelical community’s commitment to supporting children and to strengthen their families. We will work on issues such as Head Start and Early Head Start, voluntary home visiting for at-risk mothers and children, programs that promote responsible fatherhood, and tax policies that help low-income working families.

EFK is being sponsored in its initial stages by its 12-year old sister organization, FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS (www.fightcrime.org), a membership organization of 4,500 police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys, and victims of violence who seek the strong voice of the evangelical community to augment their efforts to help kids get on the right track and avoid crime.

The national director will be responsible for: the overall operation of the organization, including working with the national advisory committee of faith leaders; short- and long-term planning; developing relationships with allied organization; implementing an advocacy strategy; fund raising (with the support of a team from its sister organization); and supervising staff (there is currently a national organizing director who is heading up member recruitment, and we will be adding other staff). There will be moderate travel nationwide.

Job Requirements
We are looking for an outgoing individual of faith who is articulate and motivated to involve evangelical Christian leaders in the long-term efforts to strengthen families and help at-risk children succeed in school and in life. The person must be a self-starter and be able to present himself or herself successfully to the evangelical Christian community. He or she should have demonstrated experience working with that community, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. In addition, candidates should have experience managing staff and in preparing a business plan or organizing plan—and implementing it. Experience with policy advocacy at the state or federal level is preferred.

Salary for this position will be competitive and based on experience. Fringe benefits are very good (and health insurance is provided at no cost to the employee).
