THE MISSION

The Capstone Legacy Foundation (CLF or the “Foundation”) exists to provide donors with tax-advantaged structures and financial tools to provide funding and advocacy for ministries, charitable organizations and other non-profits in the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond to facilitate the donor’s intent and whose objectives affirmatively advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as expressed in the CLF Statement of Faith.

BRIEF HISTORY…A HEARTFELT DESIRE

The Foundation was created in October 2005 for a single purpose – to help donors transform lives through the effective use of charitable giving that fulfills the CLF Mission. We believe that the Foundation belongs to our Lord, Jesus Christ and is His work, facilitated through members of His body, the church.

Our deepest desire is to see hurting people come to Jesus Christ, and to bridge and encourage unity in the Body of Christ to help eliminate the racial and denominational gaps that have long divided our city and nation. To that end, we believe that the Biblical principle of stewardship makes it incumbent upon us to ensure that assets available to us to be used to create positive, lasting change in the lives touched by these funds, becoming advocates for ministries and services that are consistent with our Statement of Faith.

When individuals partner with CLF, they find it to be unlike any other 501(c)(3) organization.

CLF distinguishes itself by:

• Being rooted in the Christian faith
• Offering a wide array of services for donors of all giving ranges
• Committing funds to organizations that are consistent with the Foundation’s Statement of Faith.

CLF gives Christians a single vehicle for making charitable contributions at the local, regional, national or international level that reflect the CLF Mission and the donor’s personal interests and Spirit-led convictions.

A NEW WAY OF GIVING

CLF is the first foundation of its kind in Philadelphia – a decidedly Christian enterprise committed primarily to helping organizations whose mission is Christian or, if a donor is led to give to a secular organization, that organization does not contradict Christian principles as expressed in the CLF Statement of Faith. Giving to such a secular organization will be handled as an accommodation to the donor and the amount of such giving will be limited to 40% so as not to require the expenditure of CLF resources to any significant degree.

CLF donors will have access to our professional staff to help them review and identify Christian ministries that are effective and whose goals are consistent with the CLF Mission. Sometimes, donors prefer to remain anonymous, and CLF can provide an excellent means of accomplishing that objective as well.

There are many ways to give through the Capstone Legacy Foundation. Here are some of the most common methods that philanthropists and their financial advisers choose:

• Donor Advised Funds
• Charitable Remainder Trusts
• Charitable Gift Annuities
• Gifts of Property or other Complex Assets
• Life Estate Agreements
• Temporary repository for year-end gifts

CLF may be thought of as a storehouse – a place where funds are housed and distributed to those in need, while providing donors with the latest in legal tax-avoidance strategies and financial instruments. The goal is to help donors maximize the impact of their charitable giving while minimizing the impact of taxes.

CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP

Christian stewardship is a way of living in which we recognize that everything belongs to God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. All resources must be used for His glory and the common good. The Foundation believes that the single most important part of Christian stewardship is an active and committed life of prayer, and has made intercessory prayer an integral and requisite part of CLF and its work.

This concept of stewardship dates from the beginning of time, when God entrusted the earth to Adam and Eve and their offspring. We have received not only the earth, but also many spiritual riches to be used to advance the kingdom of God. Our Lord expects that we will use all for His glory and the salvation of souls.

HOW CLF SERVES THE COMMUNITY

The Foundation is committed to helping our donors reach their philanthropic goals. They will have control over where their gifts go, consistent with the Foundation’s mission, and good stewardship will be promoted through the use of tax-advantaged financial products. Our donors may retain their current financial advisers and money managers, and use CLS primarily as a legal, ethically sound tax shelter, or they may use financial advisers and money managers with whom we have developed relationships.

The Foundation regularly reviews the spiritual, legal, and financial integrity of its recipients for consistency with the CLF Mission and expressed donor intent. When desired, participants receive periodic updates as to how funds are being used by the ministries they choose to support. We hold them accountable so our donors won’t have to.

The Foundation understands that we couldn’t exist without the passion of our supporters for helping those in need. Without them, there would be no us. That’s why we’re dedicated to being a safe harbor for Christian charitable giving – one that will help them maximize the impact of their God-given resources.

But we want to do more than give money. We want to promote change – the kind of change that can only be found in a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By partnering with CLF, our donors enjoy the privilege of seeing genuine transformation take place – one need, one life and one city at a time. Philadelphia was America’s first capital. We believe that we are once again being called to take the lead in transforming the nation through faithful, obedient stewardship of those resources with which God has entrusted us.

WILLIAM PENN’S PRAYER FOR PHILADELPHIA:

"And Thou Philadelphia the virgin settlement of this province named before thou wert born, what care, what service, what travail have there been to bring thee forth and preserve thee from such as would abuse and defile thee. O that thou mayest be kept from the evil that would overwhelm thee, that faithful to the God of thy mercies in the life of righteousness, thou mayest be preserved to the end. My soul prays to God for thee that thou mayest stand in the day of trial, that thy children may be blest of the Lord and thy people saved by His power."

STATEMENT OF FAITH

1. We believe that the entire Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God; the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

2. We believe that the there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and that He was true Man and is true God.

4. We believe that in this age, God manifests Himself through the Holy Spirit who is a distinct personality, eternally co-existent with the Father and the Son, whose basic task is to convict sinners, regenerate those who believe, and empower believers to live godly lives and in every way glorify the Father and the Son through His indwelling presence.

5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, and that He sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God.

6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His shed blood.

7. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected in body, ascended into Heaven, currently lives there for us as High Priest and Advocate, and that His personal, physical return to earth is imminent.

8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting punishment of the lost, and the everlasting redemption of the saved.

These eight principles form the basis of how we determine which ministries and charitable organizations qualify to receive grants recommended by individual givers. Proposed grant recipients that are ministry related must sign the Statement of Faith. Others may not be required to sign the Statement of Faith, but they may not operate in contravention to it, as determined by our Board.

THE POSITION

The Executive Director will report to the Foundation’s President, Mrs. Nancy Hansen.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director of the Capstone Legacy Foundation (the “Foundation”) reports to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and is responsible for leading the organization in conducting the business of the Foundation, primarily fostering, nurturing and guiding donors in financial Christian stewardship and providing effective grant making in accordance with the Vision and Mission Statements and Statement of Faith of the Foundation. He/she performs all duties in a manner consistent with the high standards and dignity of the Foundation’s founder, whom we believe is Jesus Christ, the Lord.

MAIN DUTIES

• Network in the community with churches, parachurch ministries, banks, legal firms, and heads of companies to inform and to influence the commitment of funds to the Foundation.

• Be able to articulate the vision into the multi-cultural community, strong sense of salesmanship, being a good listener and determining what the needs of the individuals are and relating that to the products the Foundation offers. This will involve joining appropriate community organizations that would offer opportunities to extend networking.

• Plan events that would encourage different community leaders to come together to see the impact that shared resources would have on the community that might stimulate more resources toward the Foundation.

• Oversee and assist in developing an Advisory Committee consisting of community leaders in touch with their neighborhoods and programs that would be well served with financial assistance that could advise prospective donors as to where their funds might be best utilized in the community.

• Oversee the development of services that could enhance churches, parachurch ministries and others in developing stronger administrative processes to be more functional and to attract funding support.

• Plan events in Wilmington, New Jersey, and in different regions of the Greater Philadelphia vicinity to market the Foundation, keeping in mind its strong Christian commitment.

• Work closely with the Board of Directors in establishing specific program guidelines and areas of specific programmatic interest, including fostering, supporting and assisting in planning the Foundation’s reliance on prayer and devotional Bible studies.

• In collaboration with the Board, foster, nurture and guide donors in financial Christian stewardship, schedule related proposals for Board review, participate in Board process of proposal reviews, and act on proposals that are either approved or that fall outside the guidelines or fail to meet minimum standards. In the early stages, working with WaterStone to facilitate these.

• Travel to WaterStone in Colorado Springs for training to understand their processes as they will be the back office for the Foundation for the first three years or until such time as the Board decides that the foundation is ready to develop a similar structure.

• In collaboration with the Board, create and maintain grants management and administrative policies and procedures, schedule related proposals for Board review, participate in Board process of proposal reviews, and act on proposals that are either approved, fall outside the guidelines, or fail to meet minimum standards.

• Investigate special areas of program interest and keep abreast of trends and developments in the Foundation's fields of interest.

• Maintain effective contact and communication with other foundations and non-profit organizations, particularly such foundations and organizations with a Christian vision and mission. Respond to inquiries, review requests for support, solicit proposals for specific program areas, and assist in modifying proposals to better fit Foundation interests.

• Prepare the annual operating budget, establish and supervise donor and grant payment schedules, control budget and expenditures for the organization's operations, monitor fund managers and investment strategy, assist auditors in information gathering, and report to Board on administrative and financial affairs.

• Prepare materials for and participate in the annual planning meeting, including the development of statistical reports, program documents, and trend data.

• In collaboration with the Foundation’s accounting staff and services, prepare the organization's annual report, establish and maintain media relations, represent the Foundation at local and national organizations as well as at a variety of local functions as appropriate.

• Pursue collaborative efforts with other grant makers and community organizations in creating and supporting programs and initiatives in which the Foundation has a mutual interest.

• Recruit, train and manage an Administrative Assistant, Finance Manager and junior employees, as well as review performance of staff and recommend compensation levels for approved employees.

DESIRED BACKGROUND AND STYLE

The Executive Director should have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:

• A servant leader; proven, significant leadership skills.

• Initiator; curious life-long learner; strong conceptual skills; energetic, with a strong work ethic.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

• Financial understanding including Budget Development and Management.

• Banking, investment and/or fundraising experience with Major Donors and Planned Giving instruments.

• Board service or a strong history in working with Boards of Directors.

• Project management or event planning background.

• Community Development and Sales or Marketing experience.

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

The ideal candidate may currently be working in a variety of settings:

• A senior executive in a large non-profit
• Consulting to non-profits on community development and/or fundraising matters
• An experienced for-profit executive looking to serve in a ministry setting
• Banking or investment background with a working knowledge of all financial vehicles

COMPENSATION

The compensation for the Executive Director will be competitive with the market for similar levels of responsibility. The Foundation has a competitive benefits package.
