The houseparent is a member of the professional child care team which provides direct supervision to the dependent children of Christian City.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
• Supervise, direct, and provide instruction (as appropriate) to the children in all areas of their lives including spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and morally. This includes providing meaningful discipline designed to teach and not to punish. Discipline is to be balanced with encouragement.
• Model an appropriate lifestyle for the children in all areas of life, including spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and morally. At all times the houseparents will strive to set an example for the children.
• Attend, on a regular basis, the church assigned. This would include, but not be limited to, Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday services, and other services/programs as appropriate.
• Participate in the child care team to select, evaluate, and assess of a child’s needs and develop a plan to effectively meet those needs.
• Demonstrate the ability to analyze and react to difficult situations, often while under considerable stress and pressure, while paying particular attention to the safety and wellbeing of the children.
• Responsible for implementing the child care philosophies, policies, procedures and practices of the Christian City Home for Children.
• Responsible for following the plan of care as established by the team.
• Develop and maintain an accepting and empathetic relationship with every child’s relatives or sponsors. Encourage the development of relationships with the child’s family in an effort to reunite the family.
• Maintain the confidentiality of every child in our care. Specific information about a child should not be discussed with anyone outside of the child care team.
• Report all indications or rumors of child abuse whether physical, verbal, emotional or sexual to the child’s case worker immediately. If the case worker is not available, then the report should be made immediately to the Program Director.
• Provide structure in the children’s activities to include time for meals, chores, homework, play and worship. This would include the planning and implementation of various off-campus activities.
• Encourage the children to take advantage of extracurricular activities and to maximize their individual talents.
• Monitor and maintain the physical health, wellbeing, personal hygiene and special medical needs of all children.
• Provide transportation for the children to church, school, work, medical appointments and any necessary events as needed. Except in an emergency, children should be transported in Christian City vans.
• Work as partners with the relief houseparents to maintain consistent operations of the household.
• Maintain all paperwork as required by the children’s division and the Georgia State Department of Regulatory Services. Paperwork should be done in a thorough and timely manner.
• Participate in a minimum of 24 hours of training annually.
• One member of a full-time, married houseparent team must work 20 hours on campus as directed by the Program Director.
• Maintain a clean and orderly home type environment for the children. House should be maintained so as to be available at all time for tours.
OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS
• In the event of an emergency in Sparks Inn where the security of the residents may be at risk, one member of a two-member houseparent team should be prepared to assist the Director – Personal Care in assuring the safety of the residents.
• Performs other job assignments as designated by Program Director and/or Chief Operating Officer-Children.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Minimum of a high school education or equivalent. Formal training or college in the area of Youth Services preferred.
Minimum of two years experience working with children in some capacity or residential setting and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
Must possess excellent organizational skills.
Must be able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
Must be able to de-escalate crisis situations and work well under pressure.
Must be able to handle situations and the children with patience and understanding.
Must exemplify Christian values in work and family life.
Must exemplify appropriate behaviors to be modeled for the children under the houseparent’s care in all life aspects, including spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to make accurate observations and assessments of a child’s behavior.
Must be able to work with children from all socioeconomic, ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds.
Must be emotionally stable, physically capable and spiritually mature.

X___ Other (Please explain) A houseparent is required to be able to perform every routine physical demand necessary to run a household of 4-8 children. Must be capable of providing emergency services to anyone in need. This may include but is not limited to being able to run short distances, being able to navigate tight spaces and carrying/pulling an unconscious/injured child (up to the age of 21) to safety in the event of an emergency. In all circumstances, a houseparent must have the capability to ambulate to and navigate any space to which a child under his/her care could ambulate to or navigate. Additionally, a houseparent must have the ability to see, hear, and communicate at all times with a child under his/her care.
