Job Description:

Responsible for provision of clinical nursing care; collaborate with Wellness Center professionals,  university personnel, and community providers to develop and  promote integrated/holistic healthcare and lifestyle practices that support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness.  Benefited position.  Full-time mid-August through mid-May, and part-time during summer months.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide primary nursing care to students and employees in a university health center including making independent nursing decisions based on policies, procedures, best practices, and standing order or orders of other licensed health professionals (Wellness Center ARNP) via delegation. 
  2. Administer and deliver clinical services including: exams, immunizations, phlebotomy and intravenous therapy, nebulizer treatments, 12 lead EKG, procedures, consultations and education about health issues.
  3. Triage and provide emergency and acute care assessment, including triage, intervention and appropriate referrals.
  4. Provide information and instructions for patients regarding treatment options, procedures, follow-up, and life style practices that support health.
  5. Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) waived lab tests including: urine analysis, pregnancy test, rapid strep, rapid mono, hemocue, Flu A/B; coordinate additional lab tests with contracted services at an external laboratory. Coordinate and manage student immunization records. Create and maintain accurate medical records. 
  6. Consult and collaborate with MDs, NDs, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, counselors, and other health care providers from various disciplines.
  7. Contribute to the professional, efficient operation of the Wellness Center by maintaining supplies and equipment; medication ordering and inventory; vaccine and vaccine supplies ordering and maintaining cleanliness of medical offices.
  8. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with professional ethics and standards; federal and state law related to health care profession; and all regulatory guidelines for the operation of a university health clinic. 
  9. Develop and maintain health care resources, community referrals, health education information. 
  10. Work with Wellness Center personnel to develop and implement departmental policies and procedures. 
  11. Collaborate with Wellness Center professionals to develop and deliver campus wide wellness programs and services that promote an integrated / holistic approach addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual life style practices that contribute to health and wellbeing. 
  12. Provide first-aid, CPR and blood-borne pathogen training to university employees. 
  13. Collect and maintain documentation of services, information for quality assurance reviews, and data for institutional goals assessment. 


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
  2. Current RN License in the State of Washington. 
  3. A minimum of five years of experience in outpatient nursing profession; college health experience preferred.
  4. Practices an integrative orientation to health care (i.e. holistic or mind-body medicine approach that is inclusive of physical-mental-emotional-spiritual aspects of illness and health).
  5. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED training and certification.
  6. Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of health issues.
  7. Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities in a self-directed, organized, timely, and professional manner.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively and fluently in English, including oral and written expression and comprehension. 

Working Environment

  1. Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office / clinical setting M-F. 
  1. Position works with strictly confidential information and must operate within Federal and State Privacy Laws.
  2. Work requires occasional exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens and requires use of Personal Protective Equipment.


Physical Demands

The functions are usually performed while standing or seated at a desk, but may involve some stooping, bending, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), reaching, and stretching.   The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are required.
