Job Description:




The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of HOPE International and its domestic subsidiaries. The scope of this role includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.


To promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International and to contribute to the financial and accounting aspects of the organization with a special emphasis on financial controls, accounting operations and financial planning and analysis.


I. Management

a. Lead the Accounting Operations and Financial Planning & Analysis groups;

b. Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization; and

c. In collaboration with country leadership and the HI Manager of External Reporting, maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures for HOPE International and its consolidated subsidiaries.

II. Transactions

a. Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner;

b. Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable;

c. Ensure that expense reports are received and processed promptly;

d. Ensure that all donations and associated correspondence are processed timely;

e. Process payroll in a timely and accurate manner;

f. Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed;

g. Ensure that state registrations and filings are kept up-to-date;

h. Maintain the chart of accounts;

i. Maintain an orderly accounting filing system; and

j. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.

III. Reporting

a. Issue timely and complete financial statements;

b. Coordinate the preparation of the financial portion of the HOPE annual report;

c. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations;

d. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics;

e. Manage the development, consolidation and approval of the annual budget and forecasts;

f. Calculate and interpret variances from the budget and report significant issues to management; and

g. Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for proposals, resource investments and contract negotiations.

IV. Compliance

a. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit; and

b. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.


I. Personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International;

II. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or other relevant field;

III. Strong preference for candidates with active CPA or CMA certifications;

IV. 10+ years of relevant accounting/finance leadership experience including responsibility for professional and non-exempt staff;

V. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; Knowledge of Quickbooks and Salesforce preferred;

VI. Ability to travel, as needed, within the HOPE footprint; and

VII. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
