Bethel Lutheran Church Windsor, Colorado Job Description: Director of Elementary Youth and Family Ministry (D.E.Y.F.M.) Purpose: The Director of Elementary Youth and Family Ministry (D.E.Y.F.M.) develops, maintains, oversees and serves as an inspirational resource for the Christian ministry and education programs for our children from the cradle through 5th grade. The D.E.Y.F.M. along with leadership will develop programs and curriculum that builds faith in Disciples of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior among our children and their families. The D.E.Y.F.M. will develop, implement, organize and coordinate all activities related to this age group and their families. Information contained in this job description is not intended to be all-inclusive for the position. Accountability: The Director of Elementary Youth and Family Ministry is directly accountable to the Senior Pastor, with budgetary and reporting accountability to the Church Council. Qualifications: 1. Willingness to commit to be loyal to the Lord, this church, the staff, the congregation, and the community. 2. Willingness to commit as a disciple of Jesus Christ and to actively seek ways to grow as a disciple. 3. Ability to speak with others, about faith, Christianity, and Godly principles. 4. Display a Christian lifestyle in accordance with the core values of Bethel Lutheran Church. Attend Sunday worship services weekly to represent Bethel’s Family Program. 5. Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team. 6. Demonstrates a working knowledge of age appropriate methods and behaviors. 7. Pass a background check. Responsibilities: 1. Responsible to plan and coordinate Sunday School. Including Fall through Spring with planning and coordinating an additional Summer Sunday School program. 2. Responsible to plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School. 3. Responsible to plan, coordinate and participate in the 45ers (4th and 5th grade) events; a minimum of 6 times a year. 4. Be present and prepared on Sunday morning before and after Sunday School to greet, support, and encourage children, parents and teachers. 5. Nurture and encourage Bethel’s cradle through fifth grade children and their friends in Christian faith. 6. Responsible to train, supervise, manage, maintain, and monitor Sunday School teachers in the performance of their duties and be prepared to teach in their absence. 7. Collect offerings and maintain attendance records for Sunday School. 8. Follow up contact for all visitors and absentees for Sunday School. 9. Organize, maintain, and purchase Sunday School supplies and curriculum within the annual budget. 10. Submit articles monthly for the Bethel Chimes. 11. To attend the Youth and Family Ministry Team meetings. 12. Develop and implement a ministry plan to bring all cradle to fifth grade families together for fun and fellowship quarterly. 13. Report at staff, and Youth and Family Ministry Team meetings, and to the Church Council an accurate report and documentation of activities and events. 14. Coordinate with Director of Middle and High School Youth and Family Ministry, Pastor; with-in the church calendar. 15. Continue with updated training for the position of D.E.Y.F.M., with respect to Bethel’s budget allowance. 16. Must have a flexible schedule to attend and participate in the planning of special events for the appropriate age group (Christmas program, Rally Day, Movie Night, Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School and possibly –Children’s musical, etc.) 17. Become familiar with and fully support Bethel’s mission, vision, and purpose statements. 18. Potentially to oversee the Nursery staff on Sunday mornings, in the future. Skills/Knowledge Required: 1. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Power Point. 2. Excellent communication skills for teaching and interpersonal interactions. 3. Ability to meet deadlines, important details, and complete assigned tasks in a proficient and professional manner. 4. Knowledgeable in electronic communication, e.g. cell phone, texting, email and other forms of social media. Interpersonal Skills and Development: The Director of Elementary Youth and Family Ministry needs an ability to relate well with people (both children and adults); able to make decisions and delegate responsibilities to others. The D.E.Y.F.M. will have the responsibility to recruit others who might assist as volunteers in this program. This requires an ability of interpersonal communication. Required to interact and serve with the church pastor and staff, and be under the direction of the pastor. Other Terms of Employment: 1. The Director of Elementary Youth and Family Ministry is a part time position. A schedule of hours to be worked out will be developed with the Senior Pastor, and the Youth Ministry Committee Chair. 2. A performance review will be held after the first six-month period and at intervals to be determined by the Youth Ministry Chair and Senior Pastor. The deadline for applications is 5:00pm (Mountain Time) on Monday, June 10, 2013. Start Date: The start date for this position is flexible. The job may begin immediately or as late as mid-August.
