Job Description:

Juba, South Sudan - The Information Officer will work under the guidance of the South Sudan Country Director to write and edit stories related to Samaritan’s Purse (SP) South Sudan programs for the benefit of International Headquarters (IHQ); provide editing support to the Program Development officer (PDO) and Regional Program Development Officer (RPDO); and assist in project evaluations on the field.  Primary responsibilities of the Information Officer would be within South Sudan, but this would not exclude potential short-term assignments to other countries within the region as needed.

• Assist Program Managers in writing and editing impact stories related to programs.  These stories would be written to reflect the full spectrum of Samaritan’s Purse’s programming in South Sudan and to communicate the impact our programs are having on our beneficiaries and the communities they live in.  • Work with Communications and Donor Ministries departments at IHQ to provide them with stories and information that properly reflects the impact Samaritan’s Purse is having in South Sudan. • Organize and hold the library of images for SP South Sudan, and be able to share and distribute them within the broader SP Family as needed (i.e. Communications in IHQ or in an affiliate office that has a vested interest in the programs that SP South Sudan is involved with). • Providing IHQ and affiliate offices with a regular feed of social media pieces which would include images, stories and videos for SP website, facebook or twitter use specifically for internally funded programs. • Coordinate regular production of videos for IHQ Broadcast from field activities both internally and externally funded. • Encourage, train and provide guidance to the field staff including staff workshops on photography skills, gathering impact stories, etc. • Provide news and content to IHQ for editing and publication, including updating the SP country website section regularly. • Provide editing support to the PDO and the RPDO. • Assist Program Managers in editing routine reports for grant and internal purposes. • Assist in project evaluations. • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers. • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public. • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; or one to two year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  • One year of college-level Biblical studies is preferred. • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. • Detail oriented. • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable.  • Must be culturally sensitive and respectful of church and community leaders from all denominations. • Experience living and working in a developing nation. • Established strong leadership skills. • Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a commitment to teamwork. • Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g., Word, Excel) relevant to the work. • Arabic language skills, preferred but not required.

12 month contract with the potential for renewal.
