Job Description:

Faith Evangelical Free Church exists to make successful followers of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The basic purpose of our Student Ministry is:  To reach seeking students, to connect them with other Christians, to help all our youth grow in their faith, challenge their Christian growth, discover their ministry, and honor God.

Youth Ministry includes discipleship as a process with strategies to move young people along no matter where they stand on the continuum, from non-Christian to the mature believer. This Ministry shall incorporate all the core values associated with Faith Evangelical Free Church.  In summary they are as follows:  We value worship; we value education; we value the lost; we value fellowship; we value generosity; we value God’s property; we value the ongoing process of discipleship; and –we value the nurturing of our youth and children.  We believe it is our responsibility to prepare the next generation to be committed disciples of Christ and the future leaders of His church.

To this end, the primary focus of the Youth Pastor will be our regular Sunday morning programs, weekly youth groups, and retreat activities.  These ministries are designed to provide opportunity for the young person to enter into an ongoing relationship with committed Mentoring Christian adults, and ultimately, with our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Youth Pastor will have responsibility for the overall vision and philosophy of the student ministries and programs from 7th grade through early College.

Qualified candidates for this position must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, however, a Master’s degree in theological studies would be preferred, and the ability to obtain credentials with the Evangelical Free Church of America.  Preference will be given to applicants with experience and motivation to work with Jr High, Sr High and early College students.

Salary Range & Benefits: $30,000 - $39,000 annual salary, plus 75% of health insurance (employee & family), retirement (5% of salary), $100,000 term life insurance, vacation & sick time, $1,800 Professional Expense
Ministry Responsibilities include:

1.    Personal face to face interactions with students - this means being available to students. Initiating contact and developing trusting, caring, encouraging relationships as a spiritual friend and counselor.  This includes regular weekly visits to the Jr & Sr High schools and attendance at student activities. Coordinate and oversee the entire Student Ministry Program, directly reporting to the Senior Pastor for guidance and supervision.

2.    Recruit and train lay people to use their “S.H.A.P.E.”; Spiritual gifts, their Heart for students, their Abilities and Personality suitable to student ministries, and Experiences to serve God in this ministry.  This includes positions such as teachers, small group leaders, worship band leader, and other necessary roles to carry out the ministry.

3.    Meet weekly with the Senior Pastor, staff and other directors for prayer, communication, planning and evaluation purposes.

4.    Submit a written or verbal report to the Elders on a monthly basis communicating vision and program activities (Monthly Ministry Report).  Reports are to be placed in the Elders boxes two Sundays prior to the monthly Elder board meeting.  The Youth Pastor will attend monthly Elder meetings.

5.    Develop and oversee student ministries for middle school, high school & early college students.  This includes the planning of youth-based activities where fellowship and growth in Christ can take place.  A consistent focus on outreach will be included.

6.    Support, encourage and train teachers and volunteers; meeting with them monthly and giving them opportunities for advanced training as they present themselves.  (Thinking here of Youth Specialties Training or other.)  Developing and budgeting for a quality teacher-training program, selecting curriculum to support the purpose of the Student Ministry at FEFC, and provide for Sunday morning and weekly youth group activities.  This must be done in light of the church budget, managing God’s resources He has provided for ministry.

7.    Coordinate and train small group leaders for the purpose of leading students in their personal growth and discovering their ministry area.  Always be looking for those who can enhance the ministry.

8.    Develop a communication process for  Student Ministries that includes support for parents–including  letters, personal contact and quarterly scheduled parent meetings.

9.    Develop positive relationships with parents, families, church members, and leadership.

10.    Be available and responsive to leadership, parents and ministry staff by setting consistent and appropriate office hours which are communicated to the church family.

11.    Play an active part in Dallas’ community-wide youth events, i.e. Dallas Youth Pastor’s meetings, See You At the Pole, Soul Food, city-wide youth activities and Baccalaureate.
