Research Your Interviewer

by Luke Miller

Even if you're not an anxious person, going into a job interview can be extremely nerve-racking. You typically have no idea what kinds of questions you're going to be asked by a complete stranger. Unless you have the ability to see into the future, I can't help you with the questions. Modern social technologies, however, can help you learn a little about the person interviewing you.

If you know the name of the person who will be interviewing you, you may want to search for their profiles on LinkedIn, Facebook, or other social media sites. While these profiles will not tell you everything about the person, you can get a few key details that will help you relate to them. LinkedIn will typically show you education and work history, and you may find that you have some connections. Public Facebook profiles will offer this and even some interests and “likes”.

Searching social media sites (or a quick internet search) is a great way to do a little reconnaissance before the interview.
